Dads Deserve Their Day

Fathers? praises aren't sung quite as loudly on Father's Day as the clanging and trumpeting we hear on Mother's Day, but that will surely change with time. In our own family, our parenting roles have been shared equally, though both of us agree that one of us is better at coaching sports, while the other of us is better at cooking dinner. Having known the pain of losing his own father at age 12, Dr C. has reveled in spending as much time as possible with our kids. We see a lot of dads in our Sonoma County Plastic Surgery practice, both as caregivers for the moms who are our patients, and as patients themselves. As caregivers, fathers provide an essential role, and we are truly grateful for the responsibility they take on. The dads seeking surgery in our practice often come because they want to look their best while competing with a younger workforce. An eyelid lift is the most popular surgical procedure for fathers in our practice, especially because there can be a significant improvement without a "done" look. By removing drooping skin from the upper eyelids and bags below the eyes, dads can look fresher and better rested without drawing attention to their change. In addition to surgery, dads come in for Botox injections and dermal fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, to soften their frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crow's feet. Laser hair reduction of the back, neck, and shoulders is another big hit with dads. The interest in skin care is growing among men in general, and dads in particular can appreciate the importance of maintaining their skin's health. What product do you think dads like best? Sunscreen! That shows how smart our dads are, because preventing skin damage from UV rays is the first step to preventing skin cancer and preserving the skin's youthful qualities. They know it's important to practice what they preach if they want their kids to wear sunscreen to preserve their skin's health. This blog is dedicated to all those dads who come home from a long day at work to help their kids with homework, cheer from the soccer sidelines, and cook up a summer barbeque. There are no raises or promotions that come with fatherhood, but the rewards are apparent in children who are better prepared as they step onto the adult world.
